Saturday, December 8, 8:00AM Beginner's Bird Walk at Judson Nature Trails . Leader: Georgina Schwartz

Sunday, December 2, 8:00AM   Hidden Valley Recreational Park with leader  Helen Reznick .  Meet at the entrance to the park:from I-35 South,exit at Fischer Road (first exit south of Loop 410 in southern Bexar County).Go across the freeway and about 1/2 mile to Campground Road (look for the large,green sign).Turn right and follow the dirt road to the campground.Just as you en- ter the park,turn right into the trailer park to the administrative center.Bring $2 for admission.

November 3, Saturday, 8:00 AM SAAS Field Trip to Southside Lion's Park and Fanick's Garden Center Meet leader James Middleton (824-4619) at the parking lot in Southside Lions Park [on Pecan Drive north of East Southcross Blvd and south of US87, Rigsby Ave]. This park is a good place to pick up some eastern species. After birding the park and an early lunch, we will go up to Fanick¹s Garden Center to check out their native plants and birds.

Saturday, October 20, 8:00 AM   field trip to Palmetto State Park  Meet trip leader Lee Clausen (658-0781)at park check-in witch opens at 8:00 AM.Take I-10 East about 60 miles to exit on Hwy 183 South toward Gonzales.Follow signs about 4 miles to the park HQ.    Bring lunch for birding until mid-afternoon.

Saturday, August 18, 8:00AM  We'll be looking for wetland and migrant birds on this field trip to the proposed Medio Creek Nature Preserve. Meet Steve Bonner, who will lead us through the Bexar Metropolitan Water District property, at 8:00 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2001. Take I-35 south of Loop 410 to the Fischer Road exit and make a right turn on Fischer Rd.  Proceed to Moreno Rd. and make a left turn and go to the parking area. Remember, you may want to bring drinking water, sun screen and a hat.

July 7, Saturday, 8:00 AM.  field trip to Miresol Ranch near Uvalde with James Middleton We will be guests of Mr and Mrs Robert Dullnig on their ranch along the Nueces River. Meet James at the ranch gate on the right just past the Nueces River on State highway 481 which is about 8 Miles southwest of Uvalde. Take US 90 through Uvalde, then turn left on 481 near the cemetery, a total of about 90 miles to the ranch. We plan to bird along the river for all three kingfishers but will hike some through the brush so bring lunch and sun protection. Anyone with staying power is welcome to wait for the turkeys going to their roost. Call James Middleton if you plan to go.

Saturday,  June 30, 8:00 AM  Field trip to Hidden Valley Recreational Park .  Meet leader Helen Reznick at the entrance to the park.  From IH-35 South,exit at Fischer Rd.(first exit south of Loop 410 in southern Bexar County).  Cross the freeway and drive about 1/2 mile to Campground Road (large green sign);turn right and follow dirt road to campground.  Just as you enter the park, turn right into the trailer park to administrative center.$2 fee.

May 26,  Saturday, 8:00 AM Beginner ’s Birdwalk at Cibolo Nature Center,  Boerne City Park.  Everyone is welcome;  leader will be Georgina Schwartz (342-2073). The gate is to open at 7:30 AM.  There is a small fee to support the Center.

May 19,  Saturday, 8:00 AM Lost Maples State Park The timing is right for Golden-cheeked Warbler,Black-capped Vireo,flycatchers,orioles and more.  Meet leader James Middleton at the park entrance,about 2 hours from San Antonio: take Hwy 16 to Medina,  turn left (west)on Hwy 337 to
Vanderpool,  and north on RR 187 to the park.  Bring a lunch and water.

April 22, Sunday,8:00 AM SAAS field trip to the Applewhite properties Applewhite properties Applewhite properties Applewhite properties Applewhite properties Meet Robert Arredondo at the SAWS Neal Road gate 1.2 miles east of Applewhite Road or 2.2 miles west of Pleasanton Road in south Bexar County.  No restroom facilities; bring snacks and water, and wear long pants, walking shoes and a sun hat. This trip is mostly walking and will include the area around the Watson-Presnell house, the Applewhite house ruins and the Medina River bottom.  We expect to get done by 2:00 at the latest.  Please let Robert know you are coming so you don ’t get locked out.

Bamberger Ranch Birding Field Day Here is your chance to go Spring migration birding on J.David Bamberger ’s Ranch, Selah ,in Blanco County.Bring your binocs,a snack,and something to drink;some hiking will be required.$15; Please contact Margaret Bamberger.

April 21,8:00 AM SAAS Field Trip to Choke Canyon State Park  Meet leader Mike Creese at South Shore Unit entrance.  We will spend a few minutes at this unit in hope of getting Scaled Quail and some other birds found more easily there.  We will then go to the Calliham Unit for most of the day of birding.  Bring lunch, drinks,and bug spray.  If you come late, you can meet us at Calliham Unit. Choke Canyon State Park is located west of Three Rivers on Route 72.  To get to Three Rivers,take IH-37 south from San Antonio, get off at Exit 72 and stay on road to Three Rivers.In center of town, follow signs to Choke Canyon State Park.The South Shore Unit is 4 miles west of town and the Calliham Unit is 8 miles further west on Route 72.

February 17, Saturday Cartwright Ranch  Directions: Meet leader Jean Bensmiller at 8:00 AM at the causeway over Lake Corpus Christi on FM 534.From San Antonio,take I-37 toward Corpus Christi about 100 miles to Exit 47 (Swinney Switch)and proceed about 1 mile to intersection with FM 534.Turn right on FM 534 toward Dinero about a half-mile.Park off the road before you reach the causeway.Allow about 2 hours driving time from San Antonio.Bring lunch and water.This is an all-day trip combining brush birding with lake birding with scopes.Car-pooling is suggested;we will definitely combine after arriving on the ranch. We should find the Green Jays at the ranch house and the Great Kiskadee at the Causeway.

January 20,Saturday,7:45 AM Lazy U Ranch  Nancy and Craig Russell’s place is on the south side of the Guadalupe River near Seguin;we will walk around their vari- ous habitats.  Go east from San Antonio on I-10 and exit at first Seguin exit,#603,to Blinking Light at FM 725.  Turn right on 725 and go 2.6 miles to Naumann Road on the left (just an ordinary street sign,easy to miss).  Meet here at 7:45 AM.We are to be at their gate at 8:00 AM and the gate will be locked behind us.  Bring lunch and water.  Call leader Georgina Schwartz for further information.  It is useful for the leader to know you are coming so you won’t get locked out or so you can be reached if we have to cancel as we did in November.

January 6,  Saturday, 8:00 AM Live Oak City Park  Exit I-35 at Judson Road and drive east 0.7 mile to Toepperwein.  Continue 0.3 mile on Toepperwein to a left turn on Leafy Hollow,which leads to the park.  Leader is Richard Sims.
